GPs urged to refer workers' comp patients for practical support

The aim is to encourage social inclusion

NSW GPs and healthcare workers are being encouraged to refer their workers' compensation patients to a trial aimed at promoting social inclusion and aiding recovery.
About one in four people with a workers’ compensation claim are hampered by psychological and social problems, according to the state's social insurer, icare, which is funding the trial.

The program offers non-medical interventions based on a patient's biopsychosocial needs. It is being run by Primary and Community Care Services, a not-for-profit healthcare provider.
