GPs urged to update HIV treatment knowledge

AIDS trust of Australia CEO Greg Gahl said while the Australian response in the early and mid 1980s had allowed the country to avoid HIV transmission through intravenous drug use and the sex industry in a way no other country managed, new risks had emerged.

“Today the risks are in mobile populations and youth,” he said. “There seems to be a generation that thinks they are not only invulnerable as young people always do, they are also blithely complacent about STIs and HIV.”
