GSK reveals spend on professional payments

Australian healthcare professionals and health organisations received more than $2.2 million in funding from drug manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Australia last year, the company has announced.

A breakdown of payments for 2011 revealed individual doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals were given $287,384 for attending domestic and international conferences and symposia.

A further $372,695 was paid to healthcare professionals by GSK for work on clinical development advisory boards and for “speaker presentations”, with $1.5 million being paid to health-related organisations in sponsorship, donations and
