Health centre rises from the ashes

The fires on 7 February, 2009, claimed 38 lives and destroyed most of the town’s important buildings.

Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu travelled to the area on Tuesday to open a permanent facility for the Kinglake health centre.

“The Kinglake Ranges Health Centre has been providing outstanding support since the tragic events of Black Saturday,” he said in a statement.

Mr Baillieu said the opening was an important milestone as the town continued to rebuild. The new centre has three clinical consultation rooms as well as video-link facilities to enable remote consultations with specialists.

A $9.2 million multipurpose community and medical centre in nearby Marysville was opened in late 2011 to replace another practice also lost to the fires.
