Health gets a fair deal in this budget

The overall health budget has not been hacked into too heavily, which is good as there is not a lot left to hack into anyway.

My main disappointment though is that it is a missed opportunity for some real structural reform, particularly around private health insurance, which is an obvious area where a lot of money goes out of treasury coffers for no obvious return in terms of public good.

The delayed indexation of MBS rebates is only a one off and we need to remember the increases will resume after July next year, so at least it is not an indefinite
