Hep C drugs get PBS listing at last

Two long-awaited, high-cost new drugs for hepatitis C will be available through the PBS from 1 April, Health Minister Tanya Plibersek announced Tuesday.

Boceprevir (Victrelis) and telaprevir (Incivo) will be subsidised for over-18s with genotype 1 hepatitis C — a listing that will cost the Federal Government more than $220 million over five years.

Without subsidised access, patients would be paying up to $78,000 a year, Ms Plibersek said.
