Hepatitis B hot spots revealed

A new "hepatitis map" shows the local areas of Australia with high rates of untreated hepatitis B that should be targeted for intervention, experts say.

The hepatitis B hotspots identified by Medicare Local boundaries tended to be urban areas with high rates of migrants, but also rural areas with high proportions of Indigenous Australians, said report author Associate Professor Ben Cowie, an infectious diseases physician and epidemiologist at the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory, Melbourne.
