Hero pharmacist injured in robbery fracas

A brave pharmacist has been left with facial injuries after rushing to defend a woman colleague during an attempted armed robbery.

Tom Hayek was slashed across the face with a screwdriver after confronting the man who assaulted the co-worker after demanding drugs and cash late on Wednesday.

CCTV footage from the Westcare Pharmacy in Bankstown, NSW, shows the man approaching the woman and lunging at her.

After pushing her forward he marches her back behind the counter with a black object held across her face.

But the would-be robber lets her go and rushes towards Mr Hayek as he runs to the rescue.

The video, which was screened on national news, shows the pharmacist pushing the assailant away before the man slashes at his face.
