Hip fracture deadlier for men: study

Men are much more likely than women to die after a hip fracture, with as many as one in three not surviving beyond a year, a SA study shows.

About 30% men of living at home die within 12 months of having a hip fracture compared with about 14% of women, according to results from a study by Associate Professor Mellick Chehade, an orthopaedic trauma consultant at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
