HIV risk cut with prophylactic antiretrovirals

Giving prophylactic antiretroviral drugs to heterosexuals with an HIV positive partner can reduce their risk of contracting the disease by up to three-quarters, a study finds.

The research looked at the effects of antiretrovirals in more than 4700 men and women in Uganda and Kenya who were in relationships with partners with type 1 HIV but who were not themselves infected.
