Hope for GPs bleeding money as review eyes consumables
The MBS Review Taskforce will consider the long-standing issue of GPs having to fund bandages and other consumables out of the bulk-billed MBS rebate.
GPs cannot presently charge for consumables when bulk-billing patients and have to either absorb the cost or charge a full fee.
The AMA, which has agitated consistently on the topic, claims it has persuaded the Minister for Health to refer the issue to the taskforce.
Research has shown that practices almost always take a financial hit when treating wounds.
