Pregnant women can safely sit in hot baths or saunas, provided they don’t exceed explicit thresholds, Australian researchers say.


However, a leading obstetrician says common sense should still guide pregnant women’s exposure to heat and humidity during exercise.

University of Sydney researchers reviewed 12 studies on exercise and heat stress, involving 347 pregnant women, and found none of those exercising or immersed in hot water exceeded a core body temperature of 38.9°C.
