How much holiday weight do most people gain?

The Christmas bulge is a well-documented phenomenon, helping to fuel the fitness and weight loss industry every January.

However, research suggests that people may not stack on as much weight as they think during the festive season.

A study of 195 US adults found that average weight gain between November and January was 0.4kg, but that average perceived weight gain was 1.6kg (see infograph below).
