How social drinking affects the heart

Healthy people who binge drink are putting themselves at increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias and sinus tachycardia in particular, according to a study of beer lovers who attended the Munich Oktoberfest.

Electrocardiogram screening on more than 3,000 men and women who had been drinking, found that more than a quarter of the group had sinus tachycardia, marked by a resting heart rate of more than 100 beats per minute.
