Hypnotherapy as good as low FODMAP in IBS

Gut-directed hypnotherapy not only improves irritable bowel symptoms, it is just as effective as sticking to a low FODMAP diet, Australian research shows.

Hypnosis may even have the edge over the diet, thanks to its positive effects on psychological health, Monash University researchers say.

Their study randomised 74 IBS patients to one of three options: weekly one-hour hypnotherapy sessions, a low FODMAP diet, or both, over six weeks.

Around 70% of participants reported improvements in gastrointestinal symptoms, with symptom relief
