Hypos linked to ‘dead-in-bed’ syndrome

Nocturnal severe hypoglycaemia may explain the enigma of ‘dead-in-bed’ syndrome that accounts for about one in seven deaths among young people with diabetes, endocrinologists say.

In a review of recent cases of the rare but devastating phenomenon, clinicians at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital’s department of endocrinology in Sydney said growing evidence implicated hypoglycaemic-induced arrhythmia and long-term damage to the parasympathetic system from
