Ignorance of GP services ups ED numbers
A study of 81,087 ED presentations to four metropolitan Melbourne hospitals found between 10% and 22% of presentations could have been treated by a GP.
The patients did not struggle with a lack of access. Most lived in areas well served by general practice, the study by Northern Melbourne Medicare Local (NMML) and Inner North West Melbourne Medicare Local found.
