Ignoring your GP raises risk of an ED visit by 30%

Patients who delay seeing their GP because of the cost are 30% more likely to end up in an ED, new figures show.

Compiled by the National Health Performance Authority, figures based on patient surveys also quantify the obvious: those with three or more chronic conditions are nearly three times more likely to visit an ED compared with those with no long-term conditions.

Public hospital operator St Vincent’s Health Australia said there was an urgent need to “take the heat off EDs by improving GP access".
