IMG work visas continue to fall

The number of work visas issued to IMGs to practise in Australia continues to fall, as figures show most IMGs in districts of workforce shortage are practising in big cities

Overall, 2820 work visas were granted to medical practitioners in 2014/15, one of the lowest numbers in a decade, and a 12% drop in five years. 

There were now 12,495 doctors working under the so-called '10-year moratorium', the controversial policy that only grants IMG doctors access to Medicare if they work in districts of workforce shortage (DWS).
