Immigrant women have better births

Foreign-born women have better birth outcomes than Australian women, a study finds – supporting the existence of a so-called ‘healthy immigrant effect’.

Reviewing over 200,000 births in WA, researchers found foreign mothers were significantly less likely to have induced labours or elective caesareans, and their infants were less likely to need resuscitation or require specialist care.
