Inappropriate prescribing to the elderly in decline

The number of antipsychotics inappropriately prescribed to elderly patients with dementia has fallen by 4%, a new report says.

The NPS MedicineWise Annual Report 2013-2014 revealed that over the past two financial years, the NPS MedicineWise ‘Balancing benefits and harms of antipsychotic therapy’ programme resulted in a decrease of 34,675 antipsychotic prescriptions for dementia patients, a 4% reduction.
