Indigenous health report outlines care needs
GPs have been urged to consider the impact of diabetes and heart disease on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with a new report attributing 80% of the mortality gap to chronic disease.
The People I Can Call On report, launched recently by Indigenous Health Minister Warren Snowdon, is designed to give health care providers tools for culturally appropriate care.
The government-funded report was conducted by the Menzies Centre for Health Policy and was based on interviews with Indigenous people with chronic illnesses and their carers.
