Infant rotavirus vax worth the risks

Rotavirus vaccines are responsible for around 14 cases of intussusception per year in Australia, but their benefits still outweigh the risks, a Therapeutic Goods Administration investigation concluded.

The final results of a three-year study showed "clear evidence" of an elevated risk of intussusception following the first dose of both Rotarix and RotaTeq, and some elevated risk following the second dose.

This equated to approximately six additional cases
