Infants overtreated with anti-reflux drugs

Many GPs and paediatricians are medicating infants for gastro-oesophageal reflux (GOR) instead of following the preferred protocol of parental education and reassurance as first-line therapy, according to the findings of an Australian study.

Professor Katrina Allen from the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne says while paediatric gastroenterologists have moved away from prescribing anti-reflux medication for GOR, more needs to be done to inform other doctors about the change.
