Insurers demand GPs justify long consults

GPs are receiving letters from workers compensation insurers, telling them to justify their claims for long consultations by handing over clinical notes.

In one such letter obtained by Australian Doctor, Allianz Australia asked a NSW GP to provide “further information … such as clinical notes” to show that a case was complex enough to justify claiming a level C consult.

The letter noted that the doctor had previously charged consultations at level B.

“Given this change in consultation charge, we believe [the patient’s] presentation has changed,
