Integrative GP believes he is a PSR target

THE Professional Services Review (PSR) has denied conducting a “targeted attack” on complementary medicine after blocking a GP with a focus on ‘integrative medicine’ from claiming MBS items.

Melbourne integrative GP Dr John Piesse has claimed he was left bankrupted and chronically ill after spending $120,000 fighting health authorities for the right to continue claiming rebates for his integrative and complementary treatments. 

The PSR launched an investigation into his practice in early 2010 following concerns regarding a high number of long consultation claims. However, Dr Piesse has told MO he refused to cooperate – leading to his immediate disqualification from Medicare.

“I believe they’re running a targeted attack on non-mainstream doctors to, if possible, get them blocked from Medicare,” he said.
