IVF doctor sued for wrongful birth

The Sydney Morning Herald today reported IVF specialist Dr Christopher James is defending the case brought by a couple whose boy was born in 2000 with a rare blood clotting condition known as antithrombin deficiency – inherited from his father.

The paper said that within days of being born the condition caused the boy to have a massive stroke that caused severe brain damage, meaning he could never walk, talk or go to the toilet.

It said the couple told Dr James of the father’s condition but claim Dr James breached his duty of care by failing to take proper steps
