A Los Angeles judge has finalised a ruling that means Starbucks and other coffee chains must serve up a cancer warning with coffee sold in California.

In a ruling published on Monday, Superior Court Judge Elihu Berle said coffee retailers had failed to prove that the risk from consuming acrylamide — a probable cancer-causing byproduct created during coffee roasting — was offset by benefits from drinking coffee.
