Junior doctors face unemployment

Hundreds of junior doctors in Queensland are facing unemployment due to a shortfall in positions in public hospitals.

The shortage is the latest crisis for a system already scrambling to accommodate around 180 extra interns as a result of increased medical school places - an issue which is still not fully resolved.
The AMA in Queensland met urgently with the state’s Director-General of Health earlier this month after emails were sent to about 500 Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) telling them they had not been selected for continued employment in 2013
