Keeping it in the family

BAIRNSDALE GP registrar Dr Andrew Linton lives and breathes general practice, which is probably what prompted a colleague to nominate him for the 2011 Medical Observer/GPET Registrar of the Year Award.

But perhaps genes have also played a part. The son of two GPs and the husband of a nurse, Dr Linton cheerfully admitted his two-year-old daughter is probably a medico in waiting.

“I spent my first 10 years in Nepal with my parents, who went there to practise,” he told MO.

The experience fostered a love of “cradle to grave” medicine that Dr Linton never lost.

As a term-two registrar with regional training provider Southern GP Training, he has put his diploma in advanced obstetrics to good use, performing caesarean deliveries at the local hospital.

“It is a really satisfying part of medicine, looking after people from birth right through their lives,” he said.
