Key pharmacy stakeholders start 12-month review
A group of key pharmacy stakeholders has kicked off a 12-month review of two key documents covering professional and ethical standards and practice expectations for registered pharmacists.
Members of the group include representatives from the PSA, the Guild, Pharmacy Board, Pharmacy Council, the federal government and consumer groups.
After robust discussion at the first meeting, the group concurred that the documents, the Professional Practice Standards (PPS) and Code of Ethics for Pharmacists, must maintain their focus on patient-centred care and clearly articulate the contribution of pharmacists in the broader context of the health system.
It also agreed that the review would cover the role of pharmacists in:
- Treatment of minor ailments;
- Collaborative care arrangements;
- General practice;
- Biosimilar medicines;
