Kids’ asthma linked to maternal depression
Children of mothers who remain depressed long after the baby blues may be more susceptible to asthma, according to an Australian study.
Looking at data from over 4,000 children, researchers from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute found a nearly three-fold increased risk of asthma in children at age 6-7 whose mothers had a history of severe and persistent depression.
The finding held even after adjusting for maternal asthma and smoking during pregnancy.
