Labor pledges to tackle rise in HIV

Labor is considering rolling out point-of-care testing for HIV across the country, announcing it will spend $1.3 million to investigate the option.

The funding is part of a larger $25.4m pledge to step up efforts against STIs and blood-borne diseases, that was announced on Monday.

Health Minister Tanya Plibersek (pictured) said point-of-care testing could complement existing testing for HIV in Australia, by becoming a preliminary screening test for at-risk population groups, such as gay and bisexual
