Boosting the use of long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) methods is key to preventing many of the 80,000 terminations that occur every year, says an influential group of health organisations.

A consensus statement released by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA) on Tuesday calls for increased access to the drugs and devices and recommends improving Medicare rebates for insertion of IUDs and implants, increasing education about their use and better training for primary care staff.
