Light smoking as dangerous as morbid obesity

And they are still twice as likely to die than people who have never smoked, according to recent findings from Australia’s biggest study into the long-term effects of smoking, revealed as part of the Sax Institute’s 45 and Up Study.

“People who considered themselves light smokers, people who smoke around 10 cigarettes a day, actually had double the chance of death than people who had never smoked,” said 45 and Up science director Professor Emily Banks.
