Long wait for non-PBS listed meds

The federal government last year broke from its customary practice of automatically listing new products deemed safe, effective and cost-effective by the TGA’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) and said they must be approved by Cabinet before PBS listing.

Following pressure from industry and consumer groups, the government later said it would automatically allow PBAC-approved products onto the PBS if they were likely to cost under $10 million a year.
