Lymphoedema follow-up needed after gynaecological cancer

The largest and longest study of lymphoedema following gynaecological cancer has found up to half of women experience swelling in the legs in the first two years after treatment.

The prospective Australian study of 400 women reports a majority of lymphoedema cases are detected in the first 12 months after surgery, but new cases continue to emerge over the second year of follow-up, suggesting a need for close monitoring and ongoing patient education.
