Mandatory reporting confusing: MDOs

Medico-legal advisers have told MO that, two years after national mandatory reporting laws took effect, confusion about when a doctor should report a colleague who they are treating is still causing “heartache” among practitioners and extra work for AHPRA.

MDA National medico-legal advisory services manager Dr Sara Bird said these “impairment” notifications were “especially problematic” because of confusion about what the word meant, and she repeated the call for a national exemption, already in place in WA.
