Man’s death blamed on Champix

A grieving Queensland mother whose son took his own life days after he started taking the smoking cessation drug, Champix, says he'd been in great shape before the medication was prescribed.

Timothy John, 22, killed himself just eight days after he started taking the Pfizer medication in 2013.

His mother, Phoebe Moorwood-Oldham, is campaigning for on-the-box warnings about the potential side-effects of Champix.

An inquest at the Brisbane Coroners Court is considering the role of the drug in relation to Mr John's death and whether appropriate warnings were given.
