Marriage may help stave off dementia

Lifelong singletons and widowers seem to be at heightened risk

Marriage appears to lower the risk of developing dementia, according to the available evidence.

A study in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry shows that, compared with those who are married, lifelong singletons are 42% more likely to develop dementia.
 
Part of this risk might be explained by their poorer physical health, the researchers suggest.
