A new infant massage technique could ease the slow and “frustrating” task of collecting urine samples from newborns, a study suggests.

Spanish researchers say the trick, which uses gentle bladder and lumbar stimulation to trigger a reflex contraction of the detrusor muscle, is safe and takes less than one minute on average.
It successfully obtained samples from 69 of 80 infants (86%) in the study.
