Maternal flu vaccine only protects babies for eight weeks: study

Maternal flu immunisation may only protect babies for about eight weeks rather than the six months stated in official Australian guidelines, new research suggests.

A study of 1026 infants born to mothers who had antenatal flu vaccine found that the effectiveness of flu vaccines decreased substantially from 86% for babies eight weeks or younger to just 26% for babies aged between eight and 16 weeks.
