McGorry blasts Labor govt for ‘quick spend’

Professor McGorry, founder of Orygen Youth Health, named the $550 million Partners In Recovery program – aimed at coordinating community mental healthcare through Medicare Locals – as an example of quick government spending without planning.

Australia needed to double its mental health spending to about $12 billion a year to match the mental health burden, he said, but stressed that, “I don’t think that should happen overnight because you just waste money on things that weren’t really tested or worked out”.
