Medical abortion now just a phone call away

Australian women seeking medical abortions will now be able to bypass GPs and abortion clinics with a new telephone service that offers to mail out mifepristone pills for home use.

The newly-launched Tabbot Foundation will post mifepristone (RU486) and misoprostol to callers after arranging an ultrasound and blood test to ensure the woman is no more than 63 days pregnant and does not have an ectopic pregnancy.

According to the Tabbot Foundation's website, the service also includes a 24-hour doctor-led helpline and a 10-day follow-up call from a nurse who will offer support and guidance
