Medicare cheques to patients will be killed off in July

Practices are being urged to tell patients about the end of Medicare cheques, which will be killed off in July.

Medicare says it will no longer pay rebates using cheques from 1 July.

It wants GP clinics to tell patients to register their bank account details with Medicare in order to receive Medicare benefits.

Medicare says it has created coloured posters for practices to "ensure a smooth transition" for affected patients.
