Medicare review unlikely to boost rebates
Investigation into funding changes lacks remit, committee leader says

An investigation into Medicare funding for GP care is under way, with an expert committee of the MBS Review Taskforce examining the future of care plans, health assessments and attendance items.

But Professor Tim Usherwood, the GP leading the committee, has told Australian Doctor that he has “no remit to make funding recommendations”, implying there is no mechanism to suggest boosting rebates in the aftermath of the Medicare freeze.
“We are able to recommend retention, revision or deletion of an existing item, or the introduction of a new one,” said Professor
