Medication emergency calls growing

Prescription drugs are responsible for more ambulance calls in Victoria than illegal drugs such as heroin and crystal methamphetamine.

A report by Eastern Health says that in 2013-14 prescription drugs, including common analgesics, were responsible for more call outs than were illegal narcotics.

The second most common class of drugs responsible for ambulance calls was benzodiazepines; linked to about 11 ambulance call outs per day.
