Medication protocols show room for improvement

Medication errors and adverse drug reactions continue to be a significant problem in the Australian healthcare system, despite the implementation of strategies to address the issue, warn researchers from the University of South Australia.

Their findings indicate the proportion of all hospital admissions that are medication-related is between 2 and 3% which works out to be an estimated 230,000 admissions at a cost of $1.2 billion.
