Mediterranean diet best for hypertension in pregnancy

The Mediterranean diet can halve the risk of developing hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia and gestational hypertension, according to an Australian study.

Women who consumed more pasta, fish, rye bread, vegetables, legumes, nuts, rice — and a glass of red wine — prior to pregnancy had significantly lower rates of hypertension in pregnancy, a nine-year prospective observational study of more than 3500 Queensland women found.
