Meds banned in US pose no risk to consumers: TGA

A number of medicines recently banned in the US and Canada still meet Australian quality standards, the Therapeutic Goods Administration says.

Pharmaceutical company Apotex has seen imports of certain medicines banned by the US and Canada, following a recent inspection of its Indian manufacturing plant. Concerns were raised by officials about the possible manipulation of quality testing data at the site.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) moved to ban imports from the manufacturer in April, while Canadian regulators enforced the ban in September.
